Inpro Case Study
Four Cool Choices corporate sustainability engagement programs later, Inpro is still making “cool choices” a priority at their company.
[Cool Choices] was an opportunity to break the ice and get people comfortable with sustainability terms, and thinking about what sustainability means to Inpro and on a personal level.
Do companies participate in more than one Cool Choices corporate sustainability engagement program? What do they do when participation ends? For insights into how entities leverage Cool Choices engagement programs more than once, and after the program ends, consider Inpro’s story.
Inpro’s Sustainability History
Inpro Corporation is a leading provider of door and wall protection, sustainable building products, expansion joint systems, and decorative surface products. Inpro is also a leader on company-wide environmental and corporate sustainability policy. With a robust Environmental Management System (EMS) and Life Cycle Assessments on many of their products, Inpro is constantly trying to improve their sustainability efforts and reduce their impact on the environment.
Inpro Participated in Four Cool Choices Sustainability Engagement Programs
Inpro first implemented a Cool Choices employee engagement sustainability program in 2014. Two years later, we partnered with Inpo again to launch another company-wide program in 2016. In 2017, Inpro actually participated in two Cool Choices programs. The first was an initiative Inpro sponsored at the USGBC’s Greenbuild conference where they engaged conference attendees. The second was a local community-scale effort in Inpro’s home county of Waukesha County, Wisconsin.
Leading all of these efforts is Amanda Goetsch, Sustainability Manager at Inpro.
Cool Choices Changed Employee Perceptions of Sustainability
When Inpro implemented its first Cool Choices employee engagement program back in 2014, Goetsch said the program helped get more skeptical employees on board with sustainability.
“It was an opportunity to break the ice and get people comfortable with sustainability terms, and thinking about what sustainability means to Inpro and on a personal level,” said Goetsch. “It’s a slow evolution, but changing perceptions on sustainability now will directly influence the future of the company.”
After the 2016 program Goetsch leveraged the employee suggestions generated during the program in an innovative way. She prioritized ideas and then asked the idea authors to act as the champion for the idea. This enabled Goetsch to create a veritable army of change agents, rather than leading all change on her own.
Over the years, Inpro has achieved impressive environmental results via Cool Choices programs. Inpro staff has generated more than 1,500 ideas for saving resources, and participants reduced their carbon emissions by more than 0.5 metric tons, on average.
